Traditional
Chinese Medicine
Chinese
medicine follows a tradition that dates back over 2000 years.
There are wide range of medicine practices:
Though these are considered alternative medicines in the western
world, throughout East Asia they are a common part of medical
care. Chinese medicine is rooted in old traditions and in cosmological
notions, like the yin-yang and Five Phases. Much of the medicine
is also rooted in spirituality and nature. Always trying to find
the balance within the body, and maintaining it.
There are many reasons and advantages to using
Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine stresses the prevention
of disease, rather then treating disease. One of the best Chinese
medicines is acupuncture. Accupuncture is used as a non-medication
therapy, the side effects with acupuncture are less than
that of other medicines.
Chinese Medicine
Chinese
medicine assists the Qi. Qi is the flow of energy through the
12 meridians of the body. Each meridian flows through a certain
part of the body, there are 6 upper body meridians and six for
the lower body. All twelve of these meridians meet or intersect
at different points.
Your acupuncturist will look for symptoms caused
by the impeded flow of Qi along the meridians, e.g. Headaches,
stomach pains, blood pressure problems and the condition of your
overall health. Your acupuncturist uses this ancient form of Chinese
medicine to regulate and aid the flow of Qi through these meridians.
Based on the information he has gathered he will discern a pattern
and be able to make a diagnosis and decide on treatment.
If your are being attended by a traditional healer
he will decide between herbs, acupuncture and massage, all of
which impact the flow of Qi in the meridians.
